Our Journey Through Time
Establishment
On 15 March 1965, the residents of Motijheel AGB Colony founded Ideal School and College in Motijheel, the heart of Dhaka, as a primary school. It was upgraded to a junior school in 1968 and became a full-fledged high school in 1972. In 1973, its students appeared in the SSC examination for the first time and achieved outstanding results.
In the 1990–91 academic year, following government directives, a college section for female students was introduced on the eastern side of the Motijheel campus. Since its establishment, the institution has progressed with distinction, consistently producing excellent academic results. SSC outcomes have drawn national attention, and similar success has been maintained in Primary Completion and Junior School Certificate examinations. Co-curricular achievements have also remained notable, supported by the dedication and expertise of its administration and teachers.
The contributions of former principal Md. Fayzur Rahman are especially remembered. The institution hosts a debating club, science club, cultural council, English society, and highly skilled BNCC and scout teams. In 2009, a Shaheed Minar was constructed on the Motijheel campus to honor the Language Movement martyrs.
Establishment of the English Version
In 2003, the English Version was launched at the Motijheel campus with admissions in classes VI and VII. In 2005, admissions began in class I and were gradually extended up to class X. In October 2006, 12 decimals of land adjacent to the school building were purchased from the Ministry of Public Works.
After a new governing body assumed responsibility in 2009, construction of a new building for the English Version began on that land with institutional funding of approximately ten crore taka. The multi-storey structure is now in use, and academic activities for the English Version are conducted there.
Establishment of the Banasree Branch
In 1996, six bighas of land were purchased in the Banasree residential area under Khilgaon (now Rampura). The branch began operations in a semi-permanent building with 702 students from classes I to VIII.
Over time, it was upgraded to class X. The governing body later decided to construct a multi-storey building. The foundation stone was laid on 27 August 2005, with plans for a six-storey structure. The current four-storey building has a floor area of 14,500 square feet per level and was inaugurated on 5 October 2006. Since January 2007, all academic activities have been conducted there.
In 2012, a new English Version section for classes I to III opened with 300 students. In 2014, construction of a ten-storey foundation-based building was completed up to the second floor with government funding, and further vertical expansion was commissioned through the Directorate of Education Promotion using the institution’s own financing.
Establishment of the Mugda Branch
Following the formation of the government in 2009 under Prime Minister X, a new governing body was formed under the supervision of local Member of Parliament Y. To meet long-standing local demand and accommodate admission pressure, steps were taken to establish a new branch in Mugda under Sabujbagh.
With the leadership of Rashed Khan Menon and the cooperation of MP X Chowdhury, one acre of land was allocated for the branch, where a semi-permanent building was constructed. Academic activities began on 2 March 2011 with 1,757 students up to class VIII.
On 8 June 2011, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the proposed academic building and formally inaugurated the branch. The effort was driven by collective dedication, including the leadership of the governing body and the tireless work of principal Dr. S. Construction of a five-storey building with an eight-storey foundation is currently underway with institutional funding.
Establishment of the College Section
In 1990, the college section was launched to meet the educational needs of female students, starting with 71 students in science and 179 in humanities. In 1993, the business studies group was introduced with 79 students. In 2014, the English Version (Science) began with 51 students.
At present, the college section includes six science groups (Bangla medium), two groups each in humanities and business studies, and one English Version group. Approximately 2,100 female students study across classes XI and XII.
Regular class tests are conducted in every subject, along with two semester examinations each year. The college consistently produces excellent results, maintaining an average pass rate of 99.50% and around 56% of students achieving GPA 5.
Students actively participate in cultural and extracurricular activities through science, business, debating, and English clubs, winning recognition at various levels. Ranger and Rover Scout members demonstrate excellence nationally and internationally. Students also achieve notable success in sports such as badminton, football, and athletics.
These achievements continue with the dedicated support of the governing body, principal, and all members of the institution.
